Nino & Nina (script under the cut)
Page 1: Once upon a time there lived a poor family
in a little house
on the edge of the city
This is me, Nina, and this is a story about my adventure
Page 2: Dad took us into the city on a big bus
I'd never been to the city before. I was so excited.
Page 3: Everything was huge
and strange
and scary-wonderful
I wanted to stay forever.
Page 4: Dad bought us icecream, then he went off to do grown-up stuff
Me and Nino sat on the steps and waited for him
Page 5: We waited.
And waited.
Page 6: After a while, Nino said, "I don't think dad's coming back."
Sometimes my brother is stupid, but this time it looked scarily like he might be right
Page 7: We handled it pretty well
All things considered.
Page 8: "We can't stay here," I said.
"But how do we get home?" asked Nino.
Nina: The bus!
Nino: No money.
Nina: We could walk?
Nino: Too far.
Nino: We could call Mum and Dad?
Nina: They don't care. They left us here.
Page 9: We were stranded.
In the dark, the city wasn't scary-wonderful. It was just scary.
People passed us with shadowed faces
After a while, it started to snow.
Page 10: Nino held me very tight
Under the shelter of the cathedral, we tried to sleep.
Page 11: Someone shouted. A witch!
We ran and ran.
Page 12: We ran until we couldn't run any more.
Then we walked.
Page 13: We walked even though we had nowhere to walk to
Even though I was scared
and the world was going wobbly at the edges
Page 14: We were deep in a dark forest now.
Nino built us a little hut to sleep in
but it didn't keep the dark things out
Page 15: There was a rumbling and a shouting, and then the ogre came
and took Nino
Page 16: Me and Bunny ran and hid
Page 17: But it was too late
Bunny: Nina, run!
Page 18: Bunny: Run!
Bunny: run
...Nino, help me...
Page 19: Nina: Nino!
When I woke up, Mum and Dad and Nino were there, with a strange man. I felt very ill.
Page 20: They told me it wasn't real
that we'd never left the city
there were no ogres
no witches
no dark forest
just the city streets
fever brought on by the snow
and a kind man who'd found us and taken us in
Page 21: But I knew what had happened, even if it was all muddled and shadowy
Even if the ogre
turned out to be an angel
